So this my first blog… dragged out of me by a Director who insists social media (is this what this is?) is a vital part of our evolving communication patterns. To be honest, I’m in two minds about it… so much social media (Twitter in particular) is focussed on brand awareness (personal and public) mixed in with a huge dollop of ego… I mean who really cares what you ate for breakfast, whether you’re planning a trip to the Congo or what book on Eco marketing you’re currently digesting.
Yes, I can see some validity if you’re into viral marketing, brand promotion or demotion but I see little of any real ‘construct’ or meaningful connection. With one exception. Yes, I recently read a blog that was informative, well constructed and relevant . It contained pertinent comment on the industry sector we operate in – Recruitment. A-ha I thought, maybe there is some validity in this social media ‘gig’. Perhaps my one-eyed outlook is reflective of the number of decades I’ve abused? Whatever, I’m sticking my toe in the water, looking for ripples.
